Scrolled the internet for ideas and found the Vibrance concrete dye. I really liked the look of the charcoal, stormy gray and white pics advertised on website. I rented a concrete grinder to prep floor for dye. Spraying the three colors of dye was a very easy process. Topped the floor with a polyaspartic clear coat so floor would be suitable for intended garage use. I Can\u2019t be any happier with the results. All my neighbors and friends can\u2019t believe I did this myself. I highly recommend this product to anyone. This texture is what makes the floor look amazing with the direct colors antiquing stain. Everyone who has come over has commented on how nice the floor looks.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Personal Tips:\u00a0<\/strong><br \/>\nI used my plastic baseball cleats when spraying on the 2nd coat thinking it would be ok instead of buying the spiked shoes. This left a couple foot prints that can be seen. Luckily they were only in the back storage area.<br \/>\nI also used the same cheap pump sprayer for the 2nd coat of sealer. This left some white specs on the floor that you can only see if you look close. Next time I would buy a 2nd sprayer for the 2nd coat.<br \/>\nThe first day I hosed off and scrubbed the floor with water and let dry, then sprayed the stain.<br \/>\nOn the second day I sprayed the sealer.<br \/>\nI also dropped an air nailer from the ceiling when framing the interior wall. This chipped the concrete. I was able to throw some more color down on the chipped area and seal it and you can barely see it.<br \/>\nOther than that it went super easy and turned out great.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Direct Colors Products Used:<\/strong><br \/>\n3 x 1 Gal. We love our stained floors from Direct Colors! They were super helpful, shipping was fast, and the products were great. Originally we were going to do several colors to create patterns. I opted to mix Black and Malayan Buff together to get one color since that is what was already ordered. It worked, but just buy one color if that is what you want to do.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Personal Tips:<\/strong><br \/>\nI did three different preps to three different areas. They all had the same treatment after that. Kitchen, entryway\/toilet, and party room. Kitchen was just cleaned with simple green and stained, entry area was citrus etched and then stained, and the party area was mechanical etch and stained. I would recommend mechanical etching, or solvent based if you want a darker color. Acid before acid is going to reduce the alkaline pH of the concrete surface. I rented a floor cleaner from HD after doing it by hand to avoid all the dust. I etched the floor wet with a grill brick followed by orbital sanding. It took me one day, but it was worth it to me for the darker color. Just cleaning the floor first left darker areas where glue was removed with solvent. Citrus etch was most even but lighter color. I rented a concrete grinder to remove the coating. This took 2 days and was the hardest part of the project.On day 3 I applied 3 coats of ColorWave Amber. This was easy and only took 15 minutes per coat using a pump sprayer.On Day 4 I applied the first coat of EasySeal gloss. The directions say this can be applied using a pump sprayer, but it is too thick. I had to stop my project to go buy a roller and tray. I was worried the roller would leave streaks, but there are only a few and they are not very noticeable unless you are looking for them.I left the garage door open overnight because the VOC&#8217;s are no joke! I even turned off the AC because it was pulling air in from the garage and stinking up my house. I am not complaining though because I know this product will last!Day 5 I applied the second coat of sealer without any issues.The real test was 3 days later when I put the cars back in the garage. The old concrete floor was in very poor condition so I knew I was going to need a new floor slab and I wanted to make the new floor a feature of the new studio space by acid-staining the new slab. I had seen some very nice acid-stained floors in some of my projects and I had assumed I would have to hire a contractor to do the work, but after reading the information on the Direct Colors website, I decided to do the staining work myself. I had the old slab removed and replaced with new concrete. I did not put a sealer on the new slab but covered it with plastic film for 30 days to let it cure. I then did the other renovation work on the old garage space such as installing new wiring, furring, insulation, and plywood on the walls. After the plywood was finished with a clear sealer, I began the work on the floor. I cleaned the floor with DC Cleaner &amp; Degreaser as recommended and tried a few samples in a corner. I then spoke with a DC rep who was very helpful with some tips on how to work with two different stain colors for the desired effect and ordered all the materials I would need from DC. Ordering the DIY Kits gave me a better price than ordering individual products.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Personal Tips:<\/strong><br \/>\nI would go lighter on the first spray application of acid stains as it is possible to get a good idea about the final colors in less than an hour. I left the acid on approximately 14 hours before <a style=\"font-size: 1rem;\" href=\"https:\/\/directcolors.com\/diy\/neutralize-acid-stain\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">neutralizing<\/a>.I then scrubbed and washed the floor one quarter of the room at a time and hosed off until there was no more residue. I let it dry for about 16 hours before spraying the first layer of sealer on it. This is a heated space, so that sped up the drying process.
