Specifications - Concrete Pigment Powder

Concrete Pigment Powder specifications
System Type Integral dry pigment system. The powder is blended into the uncured cementitious mix so the color runs throughout the finished material.
Color Options Broad selection of blacks, grays, reds, oranges, browns, buffs, yellows, green, blue and white. Availability varies by color code and inventory.
Dose Rate Select the dose specified for the approved shade. Standard steps are 1, 3, 5 or 7 lb of pigment per 94 lb Portland cement sack—approximately 1.1%, 3.2%, 5.3% or 7.4% of cement weight.
Coverage On a standard five-sack cubic yard, the four dose steps require 5, 15, 25 or 35 lb of pigment. Coverage is calculated from cement weight, not concrete surface area or total mix weight.
Available Sizes 1 lb, 5 lb, 10 lb and 25 lb bags. Available sizes vary by color and inventory; orders of 100 lb or more can be quoted for volume pricing.
Mixing Method Weigh the pigment and distribute it completely through the batch using suitable mechanical mixing. Keep the pigment dose, water content, batching sequence and mixing time consistent between batches.
Application Tools Accurate scale, clean mixing container or concrete mixer, suitable mixing paddle or equipment, and the personal protective equipment specified by the Safety Data Sheet.
Use Location Suitable for interior and exterior cementitious projects when the selected pigment's technical data supports the intended exposure. Outdoor performance varies by pigment chemistry.
Ideal Materials Concrete, Portland cement, mortar, stucco, grout, plaster, precast concrete, GFRC and other compatible cementitious mixes.
Placement Temperature Pigment has no separate application-temperature range. Follow the concrete, mortar or other mix manufacturer's requirements for placement, finishing and curing conditions.
Cure Time & Sealing Pigment adds no separate reaction or drying step. Follow the curing schedule for the cementitious system. If applying a sealer, test it first because it can deepen or shift the visible color.
Storage Keep the powder dry, sealed and protected from moisture, contamination and damaged packaging. Review the current Safety Data Sheet for handling and storage requirements.
Cleanup Clean tools and mixing equipment before the cementitious material hardens. Control airborne dust and follow the Safety Data Sheet when collecting spilled powder.
Standards Information Standards status is formulation-specific. Check the selected color's technical data rather than assuming every powder color carries the same ASTM C979 statement.
Important Notes Calculate pigment from Portland cement weight—not total concrete, aggregate or bagged-mix weight. Cement, sand, aggregate, water, curing, finish and sealer all affect the final color. Approve a fully cured test panel before the full project. Powder and liquid-paste dose rates are not interchangeable.
