How-To Guide

Acrylic Sealer Water-Based How-To Guide

Step 1:  Surface Preparation

  • Cover areas at risk of over-spray with plastic drop cloth
  • Newly poured concrete must cure for 30 days prior to application
  • For existing concrete:
  • Verify absorption by pouring a cup of water in various areas. If not absorbed within 5 minutes, etch the surface with Hard Troweled Floor Pre-Treatment
  • Allow the concrete to thoroughly dry before Application

Step 2:  Application

Coverage rate is approximately 200 square feet per gallon, when applying two thin coats. Coverage rates may vary based on concrete texture, porosity, and application method.

NOTE: Store at room temperature. Before applying, surface temperature must be above 60°F (16°C) but not over 95°F (35°C).

Option 1:  Spraying (preferred method)

  • Remove filters from Pump-Up Sprayer
  • With Pump-USprayer begin at a far corner, spraying a single thin coat in slightly circular motions
  • After 12-24 hours apply second coat:
  • First, use a thumbnail to see if the initial coat dents or scratches; if so, allow more time to dry (cure)
  • Apply the second coat in the same manner as described above
  • Cure for at least 24 hours before allowing foot traffic or placing furniture

Option 2:  Rolling

  • Pour into Paint Tray
  • Use a 3/8" Nap Roller to apply your first coat in a north-south direction
  • Do not apply pressure to the roller — this can cause streaking. Let the roller's weight do the work
  • After 12-24 hours apply second coat:
    • First, use a thumbnail to see if the initial coat dents or scratches; if so, allow more time to dry (cure)
  • Apply the second coat in the same manner as described above, except in an east-west direction
  • Cure for at least 24 hours before allowing foot traffic or placing furniture

Step 3:  Seal & Protect Finish

Tools & Supplies:

Pro Tips:

  • When Hard Troweled Floor Pre-treatment is applied, wear Spiked Shoes to prevent permanent footprints
  • If sealer puddlesimmediately back roll with a 3/8" nap roller (soak in sealer and wring out excess)
  • Use warm soapy water to clean tools before the sealer has dried. Cured sealer can be removed with Soy Gel Stripper
  • Add felt pads under furniture or heavy objects to avoid damaging finish

Maintenance:

  • Interior surfaces:  Protect finish every two years with Concrete Floor Wax or spot treat high-traffic areas as needed
  • Exterior surfaces:  Protect finish every two years or as needed with Water-Based Acrylic Sealer
