What This System Is Used For

Concrete pool decks — The most common application. Sealed concrete around a pool is beautiful but dangerously slick when wet. The OxiGrip™ 2-Step System seals the pool deck and builds in the traction that makes it safe for bare feet on a wet surface. Pool deck slip resistance is a building code requirement in many jurisdictions.

Outdoor concrete stairs and steps — Sealed concrete stairs become hazardous in rain, dew, or irrigation overspray. This system seals the stairs and adds the traction that makes the treads safe underfoot.

Ramps and ADA-compliant surfaces — Wheelchair ramps, accessibility ramps, and sloped walkways where slip resistance is both a safety requirement and often a code requirement.

How the System Works

OxiGrip™ Anti-Slip Additive is an engineered mineral grit that mixes directly into clear acrylic sealer before application. When you apply the sealer, the grit particles embed in the cured sealer film — creating a textured, slip-resistant surface that's an integral part of the seal, not a separate topcoat that can wear away on its own.

The result is a sealed concrete surface that looks essentially the same as standard sealed concrete — clear finish, enhanced color, satin or gloss sheen — but with a subtle texture underfoot that provides reliable traction even when the surface is wet. The grit is fine enough that the surface doesn't feel rough or abrasive to bare feet, which is critical for pool deck applications.

OxiGrip™ Preserves the Sealer's Finish — Gloss Stays Glossy

A common problem with anti-slip additives is that they dull the sealer. Direct Colors tested competing anti-slip products and found that most of them matify the finish — a gloss sealer comes out looking satin, and a satin sealer comes out looking flat. The grit in those products is too coarse or too irregular, and it scatters light across the surface in a way that kills the sheen the sealer is supposed to deliver.

That's a real problem if you chose your finish on purpose. A gloss-sealed pool deck or showroom floor is glossy by design — the shine is part of the look. An anti-slip additive that quietly converts that gloss to a flat finish has changed the project without the customer agreeing to it.

How to Use the OxiGrip™ 2-Step System

Full step-by-step instructions ship with the product. Overview:

1. Confirm the concrete is clean, dry, and ready for sealing. The surface must be free of dirt, oils, contamination, and loose material. If you've just stained the concrete, make sure the stain is fully cured before sealing.
2. Pour the OxiGrip™ Anti-Slip Additive into the clear sealer. Add the full matched quantity (3 oz into 1 gallon, or 16 oz into 5 gallons) and stir thoroughly until the grit is evenly distributed throughout the sealer.
3. Apply the first coat with a plastic pump sprayer, foam brush, or low-nap roller. Work in manageable sections, applying an even coat across the entire surface. Stir the sealer periodically during application — the grit settles to the bottom over time and needs to stay suspended for consistent traction across the whole surface.
4. Allow the first coat to dry. Drying time depends on which sealer you chose — HydroCryl™ (water-based) typically dries 2–4 hours per coat; EasySeal (solvent-based) typically dries 4–6 hours per coat.
5. Apply the second coat, stirring periodically as before. Two coats deliver full protection and even slip resistance.
6. Allow to cure fully. Light foot traffic is typically acceptable after 24 hours; full use should wait 48–72 hours.

⚠ Important: Stir Throughout Application

The single most important technique with any anti-slip sealer is keeping the grit suspended. OxiGrip™ particles are heavier than the sealer and will settle to the bottom of the container if left undisturbed. If you don't stir periodically during application, the first sections you seal will have less grit and the last sections will have too much — producing uneven traction across the surface. Stir the sealer every few minutes throughout the job to keep the grit evenly distributed.

Adjusting the Slip Resistance Level

The matched OxiGrip™ quantity in this system (3 oz per gallon) delivers the standard level of slip resistance — a noticeable, reliable grip underfoot without a rough or abrasive feel, appropriate for most residential and commercial applications including barefoot pool deck use.

For applications that need maximum traction (commercial ramps, industrial walkways, ADA surfaces in high-rain climates), the standard ratio can be increased — though this system is portioned for the standard ratio. Always test on a small area first to confirm the texture and traction meet your expectations before sealing the full surface.

What This System Does Not Include

• Surface prep products — ProClean Degreaser™ for cleaning and Destiny™ Stripper for removing existing coatings are sold separately. The concrete must be clean, unsealed, and dry before this system is applied.
• Application tools — Sprayers, rollers, and brushes are not included.
• Stain or color — This system uses clear sealer. It seals and adds traction but does not add color. For colored concrete, stain the surface before applying this system, or use a colored sealer separately.
