Tweed is a soft, warm gray-brown that reads as a true neutral indoors — the kind of floor color that lets everything else in the room do the talking. The project below used Tweed Vibrance™ Dye, the acetone-based dye that gives the most even, predictable color of any product we make.

Basement bonanza: a five-day transformation
This couple finished their own basement — living room, bathroom, and bedroom — and wanted a floor that was durable, waterproof, full of character, and cheap. Five days start to finish, and only the first day was hard work.
Tips: “We rented an industrial dual mop and vacuum to help clean the floors — it was amazing! My number one regret is not covering the unfinished concrete floors better when we painted; it took a ton of work to remove the dried paint and primer before we could dye. Absolutely get the test kit — the 3 different dyes helped us narrow down what we wanted. After seeing our favorite in our space, we ended up going in another direction (and love it!).”

Is Tweed dye more predictable than acid stain?
Yes. Dye is far more predictable than acid stain because it deposits color rather than reacting with the slab — but the starting color and condition of your concrete still influence the finish, so test first.
What was involved in the Tweed basement floor?
