The PaveWave™ 2-Step Application System is a complete concrete paver stain kit that includes the two essential products needed to stain pavers from start to finish: 1 gallon of PaveWave™ Water-Based Paver Stain in your color choice and 1 gallon of matched sealer. Together, these cover approximately 200 square feet of standard exterior concrete pavers.
This is the most popular way to buy PaveWave™. Staining concrete pavers requires two chemically distinct products in matched quantities — and figuring out which sealer pairs with which stain and what coverage to expect from each is a barrier that keeps a lot of first-time users from getting professional results. The 2-Step System eliminates the guesswork. Pick your color, place one order, and you have everything you need to revitalize a patio, walkway, driveway, pool deck, or other 200 sq ft paver project.
PaveWave™ Water-Based Paver Stain is a semi-transparent, topical colorant developed specifically for concrete pavers and other rough, porous hardscapes. Using the natural porosity of pavers and their ability to absorb moisture, PaveWave™ infuses the surface with micronized pigments at a high pigment concentration, creating richer color saturation with fewer coats and without altering the underlying texture. The eco-friendly, zero-VOC formula delivers vibrant, variegated tones while maintaining control over color depth and placement. Although highly pigmented, this water-based stain remains easy to apply using a pump sprayer or roller, and its advanced polymer modification and high-quality pigments ensure durability and consistent color even on high-traffic exterior surfaces.
How to Use the 2-Step Application System
- Test your pavers. Sprinkle water on the surface. If it absorbs within seconds, you're ready to stain. If it beads up, you need to etch with CitrusEtch first (sold separately).
- Degrease the pavers with ProClean Degreaser (sold separately). Mix per the instructions, scrub, and rinse thoroughly. Allow the surface to dry completely before staining.
- Apply PaveWave™ Stain with one of the included sprayers (a roller can also be used for tighter control over color placement). Work it into the porous surface evenly, building up to your desired color depth with additional coats as needed. Because of the high pigment concentration, fewer coats are typically required than with comparable water-based stains. Allow to dry completely between coats.
- Allow the final coat to dry completely before sealing.
- Seal with the included concrete sealer using the second sprayer. This is when the color pops and the surface is protected against weather, UV, and traffic.
PaveWave™ Stain MUST be sealed.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is PaveWave™ and how does it differ from Portico™?
What is PaveWave™ and how does it differ from Portico™?
PaveWave™ is a water-based paver stain designed for coloring concrete pavers and outdoor concrete surfaces. While Portico™ is a solvent-based paver stain, PaveWave™ offers a water-based, low-VOC alternative with minimal odor. Both products use pigments that nest into the pores of the concrete surface and require sealing to hold the color in place.
Where can I apply PaveWave™?
Where can I apply PaveWave™?
PaveWave™ is designed for outdoor concrete surfaces including pavers, walkways, patios, driveways, and pool decks. It works well on porous and textured surfaces. As with all water-based products, the concrete must be clean, dry, and have adequate porosity for proper absorption.
Do I need to seal PaveWave™ after application?
Do I need to seal PaveWave™ after application?
Yes, sealing is required to preserve the pigment and protect the color from weather and foot traffic. Allow PaveWave™ to dry completely, then apply two thin coats of either AcquaSeal™ (water-based) or EasySeal™ (solvent-based) sealer. For outdoor surfaces, EasySeal™ is generally recommended for superior weather resistance.
What is the coverage rate for PaveWave™?
What is the coverage rate for PaveWave™?
The coverage rate is approximately 200 square feet per gallon for two coats. Coverage may vary depending on the porosity, texture, and condition of your concrete surface. Highly porous or textured pavers may require more product. We recommend rounding up on supply needs to ensure you have enough for your full project.
How do I apply PaveWave™?
How do I apply PaveWave™?
Apply PaveWave™ using a pump-up sprayer with the filter removed. Removing the filter is essential – if left in, the filter will trap the pigments and only the clear liquid will be sprayed. For smaller areas or detail work, a sponge or foam brush can also be used. Apply two coats for even coverage and allow adequate drying time between coats.
