ColorWave® 2-Step Trial System

ColorWave® is a semi-transparent, water-based concrete colorant that leverages the natural porosity of concrete and its inherent moisture absorption. When applied, ColorWave® infuses the concrete with micronized pigments, transforming dull surfaces into vibrant, variegated displays. Unlike acid stain, ColorWave® does not chemically react with the concrete – it deposits color into the surface pores, allowing for a wide range of hues including vibrant colors unattainable with acid staining.

ColorWave® can be applied on both interior and exterior concrete surfaces, including pavers, basement floors, patios, and garage floors. It works on smooth, machine-troweled, brushed, stamped, and textured concrete. For best results, the concrete must be clean, dry, and porous enough to absorb the stain. Perform a water absorption test by pouring water on the surface – if it absorbs within 5 minutes, your concrete is ready for ColorWave®.

Only apply ColorWave® when the surface temperature is between 40°F (4°C) and 95°F (35°C). Applying outside this range can affect how the stain absorbs and dries, potentially leading to uneven color results.

We recommend a minimum of 2 coats for a single color application to ensure even coverage and depth of color. You have the option to apply up to 4 coats depending on the desired intensity and depth. When using multiple colors, you can apply them wet-on-wet for a blended, marbled look, or allow each color to dry for more distinct separation.

We recommend not mixing colors together in the same container. Instead, layer separate colors on the surface using a wet-on-wet technique for beautiful marbled and mottled effects. Start with your lightest color and work toward darker shades. Many customers achieve stunning results by spraying two or three colors and allowing them to blend naturally on the concrete.

Diluting ColorWave® is strongly discouraged. The product is formulated at the correct concentration for optimal pigment delivery and performance. Dilution may result in uneven color, reduced pigment penetration, and compromised durability.

Yes, sealing is required to preserve the pigment and enhance the final color. Allow ColorWave® to dry completely before applying sealer. For indoor projects, we recommend AcquaSeal™ water-based sealer for its low VOC and minimal odor. For outdoor projects, EasySeal™ solvent-based sealer provides excellent weather protection. Apply two thin coats of sealer for best results.

The coverage rate is approximately 200 square feet per gallon for two coats. Coverage rates may vary based on concrete texture, surface porosity, and application method. For stamped, textured, or more porous concrete, you may get slightly less coverage. When in doubt, round up on your supply needs.

Apply ColorWave® using a pump-up sprayer with the filter removed. Use a circular spraying motion for even coverage and to prevent track lines. For spraying applications, start and stop the sprayer off the work area or into a bucket to prevent drips. Wear spiked shoes to avoid disturbing the wet stain. Divide your work area into manageable sections using natural break points like walls and joints.

Yes! ColorWave® is a zero VOC, eco-friendly formulation that is safe for indoor use. It has minimal odor compared to solvent-based products, making it an excellent choice for occupied homes and basements. Always ensure adequate ventilation during application and wear appropriate protective equipment including gloves and eye protection.
