“For the sealer, I found it best to spray it on with a pump sprayer and then go over it with a moist paint roller with a light touch, to even it all out.”

The sealed floor — deep, waterproof color that stands up to a pool table and foot traffic.

“Have extra sprayers just in case — and don’t stain in the hottest part of the day; the heat dried my stain too fast. Etch even if the concrete seems porous; I’m glad I did, the stain went deeper.”

Stained concrete for barndominiums: pros, cons & best stains

Pros: extremely durable (handles heavy traffic and machinery), moisture- and pest-resistant, easy to sweep and mop, and available in any color or finish. Cons: concrete can feel cold in winter and slick when wet (add OxiGrip™), and the up-front cost can top some flooring — though it lasts far longer.

Best stains: acid stain for a mottled, natural, permanent look; ColorWave® water-based for easy, low-odor color; and Vibrance™ dye for bold, uniform tone. Whichever you choose, test on your slab first.
