ColorBomb™ is broadcast as a dry powder directly onto the wet concrete surface just before the stamp mats are placed. At the same time, the iron oxide pigments in the powder transfer color to the concrete surface — concentrating in the low points and recesses of the stamp pattern where the stamping pressure pushes the powder deepest. The most popular combinations pair a lighter base concrete color with a darker ColorBomb™ accent (for example, a tan base with Cocoa release, or a gray base with Graphite release), but the right combination depends on the project aesthetic. Your concrete contractor can recommend a base/accent pairing based on the stamp pattern and the finished look you're going for.

Powder Release vs. Liquid Release: Which Do You Need?

There are two types of release agents for stamped concrete, and the choice between them depends on what happens to the concrete after stamping:

Choose ColorBomb™ powder release when you want the release agent to also add accent color to the stamped concrete during the pour. This is the traditional approach — the colored powder settles into the stamp recesses and creates the dimensional contrast that defines the stamped concrete look. Most stamped concrete projects use colored powder release.

Choose NoStick™ liquid release when you want a colorless release that evaporates without leaving any residue. This is the right choice when the project plan calls for applying a topical stain or colored sealer to the stamped concrete after it has cured. A colorless liquid release leaves the concrete surface clean and residue-free so the post-cure stain or sealer can bond properly. If the stamped concrete will be stained after curing, NoStick™ is the release agent you need.

Both products prevent stamp tools from sticking to wet concrete. The difference is whether you want the release agent to also add color (ColorBomb™) or leave the surface clean for staining later (NoStick™).

How to Use ColorBomb™ Powder Release Agent

Full step-by-step instructions ship with the product. Overview:

1. Prepare the concrete. The concrete surface should be freshly troweled to the desired smoothness and at a "plastic" state — ready for stamping. No bleed water should be present. Apply when temperatures are between 50°F and 95°F.
2. Protect surrounding areas. Cover adjacent surfaces, landscaping, and anything you don't want dusted with colored powder. ColorBomb™ is a fine powder that can drift in wind.
3. Loosen and fluff the powder in the pail before broadcasting. The material may have compacted during shipping — break it up by hand while wearing protective gloves.
4. Lightly dust the stamp mats with ColorBomb™ at the start of work.
5. Broadcast ColorBomb™ onto the wet concrete using a 6-inch mason's brush or similar tool. Apply in a sweeping motion evenly across the area to be stamped. Stay only a row or two ahead of the stamping tools to avoid clumping. Apply a thin, uniform layer — do not over-apply. Excessive powder decreases stamp detail and hinders tool imprint.
6. Begin stamping once the surface is set enough to hold the pattern. Continue applying ColorBomb™ a few feet ahead of the stamping tools as you work.
7. Allow the concrete to cure for a minimum of 24-48 hours after stamping.
8. Clean up excess powder. Sweep up and contain the excess powder release after curing. Rinse with a hose and trigger nozzle using a soft broom to assist. The goal is to retain the release color in the recessed areas (grout lines, texture low points) while removing excess from the high points.
9. Seal the stamped concrete with a cure-and-seal product for protection and to lock in the color.

⚠ Important: Do Not Over-Apply

The most common mistake with powder release is applying too much. Excessive ColorBomb™ will fill the stamp pattern detail, preventing the stamping tools from creating crisp texture impressions. It will also make cleanup more difficult and can leave a thick layer that interferes with sealer adhesion. A thin, even dusting is all you need — just enough to prevent tool adhesion and transfer accent color into the recesses.

ColorBomb™ Coverage and Sizing

ColorBomb™ is sold in 30 lb bags. Coverage depends on stamp pattern depth, concrete set stage, and desired color intensity:

• 30 lb bag covers approximately 800 to 1,000 square feet

Actual coverage varies based on the depth of the stamp mat impressions, how set the concrete is when you apply, and how much color contrast you want in the finished surface. Deeper stamp patterns and heavier color contrast use more product per square foot.
