Product Details
The Vibrance™ Dye Trial System is the smart way to test concrete dye colors before committing to a full project. It includes 3 of your choice Vibrance™ Dye colors, a preval sprayer, your choice of sealer, and 3 foam brushes — everything you need to test colors on your actual concrete. Acetone is not included and must be purchased separately — it is available at most hardware and home improvement stores.
Vibrance™ Dye is an acetone-based concrete dye in an ultra-fine powder formula, engineered to deliver deeply saturated, vivid color on both indoor and outdoor concrete surfaces. The super-fine dye particles suspended in acetone penetrate further into the concrete matrix than conventional colorants, producing exceptional color depth and intensity. But concrete still varies — surface finish, porosity, age, and existing concrete color all affect how Vibrance™ Dye absorbs and appears on your specific surface. Testing on your actual concrete is the only reliable way to confirm your color before investing in full quantities.
How Vibrance™ Dye Works — and Why Sealing Is Not Optional
Vibrance™ Dye is a powder that is mixed with acetone to create the application-ready dye. Acetone is one of the most penetrating carriers available — it drives the ultra-fine dye particles deep into the concrete surface quickly and evenly, producing vivid, saturated color that originates from within the concrete rather than sitting on top of it. As the acetone evaporates — which happens rapidly — the dye particles are left deposited deep in the concrete matrix.
But once the acetone evaporates, the dye is not bonded or protected. Without a sealer, the color is vulnerable to wear, abrasion, and surface damage. The sealer locks the dye in place, protects the color, and completes the finish.
Skipping the sealer is not an option. This is a 2-step system by design. Dye without sealer is an unfinished and unprotected project.
UV Resistance — Suitable for Indoor and Outdoor Use
Unlike many concrete dyes, Vibrance™ Dye is formulated with outstanding UV resistance, making it suitable for both interior and exterior applications. Colors remain vibrant and fade-resistant even with prolonged sun exposure — a significant advantage for driveways, patios, pool decks, and other outdoor surfaces where lesser dyes would fade over time.
Color Correction Capability
Vibrance™ Dye's ultra-fine particle formula gives it an exceptional capability that sets it apart: color correction. If your existing concrete has color inconsistencies, patchwork repairs, or uneven tones from prior work, Vibrance™ Dye can be blended and applied to seamlessly correct and unify the surface. The Trial System lets you test this correction on your actual surface before committing to a full application.
Why You Need to Test on Your Actual Concrete
The variables that affect how Vibrance™ Dye looks on your specific surface include:
- Porosity — More porous concrete allows deeper dye penetration, producing richer, more saturated color. Denser or harder surfaces absorb less, resulting in lighter color
- Surface finish — Polished, ground, broom-finished, and textured surfaces each interact with the dye differently, affecting color depth and consistency
- Concrete age — Surface conditions change as concrete ages, affecting how readily the dye penetrates and how evenly it distributes
- Existing color — Vibrance™ Dye is translucent, not opaque. Your starting concrete tone will influence the final result — lighter and darker base colors will show the same dye color differently
- Prior treatments — Any existing sealer, coating, or surface hardener will block dye penetration in those areas, producing uneven or absent color
- Surface prep quality — Because acetone evaporates almost immediately on contact, surface cleanliness and profile directly affect how evenly the dye absorbs
Testing 3 Vibrance™ Dye colors on your actual concrete — and sealing each test area — shows you exactly what the final result will look like before you commit to a full project.
Why Testing Saves You Money
A full Vibrance™ Dye project involves dye and sealer across your entire surface — a meaningful investment. If you apply the dye and discover the color isn't what you expected, correcting it once sealed is not straightforward. The Trial System is the affordable way to confirm your color — and confirm how your specific concrete absorbs it — before placing a full order.
Choosing Your Sealer
The sealer is the second step in this system and affects both how the color looks and how long it lasts. Your Trial System includes your choice of sealer so your test reflects exactly what your finished project will look like. We offer three options:
- EasySeal™ (solvent-based) — Penetrates deeply and dramatically enriches the Vibrance™ Dye color, producing the deepest, most saturated final result. Important: EasySeal™ has strong solvent fumes and requires excellent ventilation and strict solvent safety precautions during application. Best choice if color depth is your priority.
- AcquaSeal™ (water-based) — A low-odor, water-based option that's easy to apply and comfortable to work with. Color richness will be somewhat less intense than EasySeal™, but still a beautiful result for many applications.
- HydraCryl™ (water-based hybrid) — Our highest-performance sealer. HydraCryl™ delivers protection comparable to a polyurethane sealer without the complexity of a two-component system, and it's water-based. The best of both worlds: the durability of a hard-film sealer with the ease and low odor of a water-based product.
Not sure which to choose? If maximum color depth is your goal, start with EasySeal™. If you want high durability with easier application, HydraCryl™ is the right pick. AcquaSeal™ is a solid choice for lower-traffic areas where ease of application is a priority.
How to Use the Trial System
- Pick your test area carefully. Choose an inconspicuous section of your actual concrete — a corner that will be covered by furniture, a back edge near a wall, or a hidden section of the surface. Test on the actual surface you plan to dye, not a different slab.
- Clean and prep the test area the same way you'd prep your finished project — degrease and rinse thoroughly. Allow to dry completely. Remove any existing sealer or coating before testing; Vibrance™ Dye cannot penetrate a sealed or coated surface.
- Mix your Vibrance™ Dye powder with acetone according to the product directions and load your preval sprayer. Acetone is not included in the Trial System and must be purchased separately — it is widely available at hardware and home improvement stores. Use only 100% pure acetone for proper results.
- Mark out 3 test sections. Label them so you remember which color is which.
- Apply each Vibrance™ Dye color using the preval sprayer. Use the included foam brushes for edges, detail areas, or touch-ups. Never cross-contaminate colors between application tools.
- Allow to dry completely. Acetone evaporates rapidly, but ensure the surface is fully dry before proceeding to the sealer step.
- Apply your included sealer over each dry test section. This is not optional — unsealed Vibrance™ Dye is unprotected and vulnerable to damage. The sealer is also part of the final appearance. What you see after sealing is your true finished result.
- Allow to cure for 24–48 hours to see the final cured color and sheen.
- Compare the results and pick your color and sealer. Once you've chosen, order your full-size Vibrance™ Dye.
⚠ Safety — Read Before You Begin
Vibrance™ Dye is acetone-based. Acetone is highly flammable with a very low flash point — eliminate all ignition sources including open flames, pilot lights, sparks, and smoking materials before and during application and until the surface is fully dry. Apply only in a well-ventilated area; acetone fumes accumulate rapidly in enclosed spaces and are both a health and fire hazard. Wear chemical-resistant gloves, safety glasses, and a respirator rated for organic vapors. Keep bystanders and pets away from the work area until the surface is completely dry. If you selected EasySeal™ as your sealer, the same precautions apply for that step as well.
Direct Colors: Made in the USA Since 1997
The Vibrance™ Dye Trial System contains the exact same Vibrance™ Dye formulation as the full-size product — just in sample quantities. What you see in the trial is what you'll get on the full project.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is Concrete Dye a permanent color?
Is Concrete Dye a permanent color?
Yes! If properly taken care of, Concrete dye will last as long as the concrete itself. However, projects using Concrete Dye MUST be sealed every 1-2 years depending on exposure to retain the original color. If not properly cared for, the color could significantly fade requiring an additional application of dye.
What type of sprayer can I use to apply Concrete Dye?
What type of sprayer can I use to apply Concrete Dye?
Concrete Dye is an acetone-based dye. An acetone-resistant pump sprayer can be used, but when purchasing a sprayer, it is critical that the sprayer is designed to spray acetone. Acetone is a highly reactive liquid that will render most sprayers useless very quickly. Direct Colors Inc. sells a sprayer that is well-suited to applying Concrete Dye and is offered in the “Tools & Applicators” section of our website.
Do I need to seal in the color?
Do I need to seal in the color?
Sealing your surface is a MUST! All projects using Concrete Dye MUST be sealed every 1-2 years depending on exposure (indoor applications would need to be sealed less often) to retain the original color. If not properly cared for, the color could significantly fade requiring an additional application of dye.
How do I mix the Concrete Dye with the Acetone and where can I buy the Acetone?
How do I mix the Concrete Dye with the Acetone and where can I buy the Acetone?
Concrete Dye is shipped to the customer in powder form and must be mixed with Acetone to create the finished product. Acetone can be purchased at most hardware stores by the gallon and is relatively inexpensive. DCI Concrete Dye can be poured using a funnel into the gallon or larger-sized container. DO NOT USE AN ELECTRIC MIXER TO COMBINE THE DYE AND ACETONE! Replace the lid and shake until the contents are thoroughly mixed. Allow the mixture to set for 45 minutes and shake thoroughly again before using.
Is the Concrete Dye dangerous to me?
Is the Concrete Dye dangerous to me?
DCI Concrete Dye can be dangerous if not used properly. When spraying the product, remember to wear gloves, goggles and a dust mask/respirator for protection. Acetone does have a chemical odor and if using inside, the area should be ventilated to the OUTSIDE as much as possible. Acetone is a flammable liquid. DO NOT USE ELECTRIC MIXERS OR PLACE NEAR OPEN FLAMES! Always read over safety information before using any chemicals.
Is Concrete Dye and Concrete Pigment the same product?
Is Concrete Dye and Concrete Pigment the same product?
Concrete Dye and Concrete Pigment are NOT the same product. Concrete Dye is applied topically AFTER a slab or countertop has been poured. Concrete Pigment also known as integral color is added to the concrete mix BEFORE pouring a slab or countertop.
