Product Details

Soy Gel Paint and Sealer Stripper is an industrial strength and environmentally-friendly paint, urethane, polyurethane, epoxy, and acrylic stripper made with 100% American grown soybeans. The low evaporation rate of Soy Gel and its gel formulation make it possible to remove several layers in one application. Soy Gel will not lighten any acid stained, color hardened and integrally colored concrete surfaces (will lighten or remove solvent dyes and water based stains). Unlike more traditional paint strippers, Soy Gel lets you work without the odor so it’s ideal for indoor and basement projects. Soy Gel is safe to use indoors or out on concrete, brick, stone, metal, plaster, wood, and many other surfaces. When used outdoors, protect plant and vegetation with a plastic drop cloth. This product will not remove carpet glue, adhesives, mastic, or like from concrete.not remove carpet glue, adhesives, mastic or like from concrete.

Uses:

Removes Latex paint, Enamel paint, Lead-based paint, 2-part epoxies (solid count must lower than 40%), Urethane, Varnishes, Concrete Surface Sealers. Soy Gel Paint and Sealer Stripper will not take out a penetrating sealer, it will only remove a surface or membrane-forming sealer.

Coverage:

Covers approximately 200 sq. ft. per gallon depending on surface conditions and the material to be removed. A second application may be needed for thicker coatings. Do not use on plastic, PVC, rubber, or drywall.

Application:

Apply Soy Gel to the surface between 1/16 and 1/8 inch thick. Don’t brush or scrape the surface until the stripper has had time to work. Check the progress of the stripping action by using a scraper to see if the coating is softened down to the surface. If not, recover area with the soy gel and recheck again later. Cover with plastic sheeting either indoors or out to extend the wet processing time by several hours. If the Soy Gel is allowed to harden on the surface, do not attempt to remove. Apply more of the product to soften the dry material for removal. Once the coating has released from the surface, remove with a scraper, industrial wet vacuum, or another stripping tool. Reapply the product if needed to completely remove thick layers of material. After use, scrub the remaining residue from the concrete with a concrete degreaser and water solution. Wash until all cleanser residues have been removed. This is a critical step to ensure successful future staining and sealing.
*30-60 minutes will usually remove multiple coats of paint, lacquer, acrylic, epoxy, or enamel finishes; if stripping older paint or water based sealer, Soy Gel may need to be left on overnight. Keep the product moist at all times and cover with plastic to minimize evaporation

How-To Guide

Printable Soy Gel Stripper How-To Guide

Step 1: Preparation

  • Cover areas at risk of over-spray with plastic dropcloth.
  • Newly poured concrete must cure for 30 days before application.
  • For existing concrete:
    • Remove carpet glue or other adhesives using Bean-E-Doo® Mastic Remover.
    • Remove any oils, dirt, debris, or Bean-E-Doo® Mastic Remover using scrub brush and ProClean™ Degreaser.
  • Allow concrete to thoroughly dry before application.

Step 2: Application

Coverage rate is approximately 200 square feet per gallon. Coverage rates may vary based on concrete texture, surface porosity, and application method.

NOTE: Soy Gel Stripper is sensitive to temperature. Before applying, allow it to acclimate to climate of surface area location. Only apply when surface temperature is between 60°F (16°C) and 95°F (35°C)

Caution: May be harmful if swallowed or ingested. Contact with skin can cause mild irritation. Avoid contact with eyes.

  • Apply a thick layer by pouring, brushing, or squeegeeing.
    • Applying too thin a layer will cause Soy Gel Stripper to dry out before removal is complete.
  • Use a floor scraper to check if coating is softened down to surface. If not, wait longer and recheck.
  • When coating is completely softened, remove it with a floor scraper.
    • Some coatings are thicker or tougher to remove, requiring additional coats to strip fully.
  • Once coating is removed, scrub surface with ProClean™ Degreaser and a scrub brush.
  • Immediately rinse surface with water until surface is clear of residue.
  • After rinsing, apply water to various areas on concrete and scrub with a brush.
    • If water turns cloudy white, there is still Soy Gel Stripper on surface that must be cleaned.
  • Dry for at least eight hours before applying a stain or sealer.

Pro Tips:

  • Do not allow Soy Gel Stripper to dry on surface.
  • For large application areas, consider using a professional airless sprayer.
  • Use a ½” notched squeegee or gauge rake set to ½” for tough coatings or numerous layers. Square footage will be significantly reduced.
  • Soy esters may cause concrete to darken; this is not considered an imperfection.
  • When used outdoors, cover with two mils or thicker plastic to keep product wet and actively softening the coating being removed.

Cleanup:

  • Clean tools and supplies with ProClean™ Degreaser and warm water.

Tools & Supplies:

  • ProClean™ Degreaser
  • Plastic drop cloth
  • Floor scraper
  • Scrub brush or ½” notched squeegee
